lizzie's guide to driving in LA~~

hey all y'all, some of y'all may know that LA has its own set of driving rules. it takes quite a bit of time to get used to, but now i'm practically an expert. here are some tips:

1. the maximum amount of cars to turn left on red is TWO. if more than two cars go, that just ruins the whole intersection for the entire next light cycle.

2. if there is a green arrow provided for you to turn left, TURNING LEFT ON RED IS UNNECESSARY. this completely defeats the purpose of the green arrow!

3. DO NOT SWITCH LANES IN AN INTERSECTION. duh.

4. if you're heading east in the right lane of fountain at the la brea intersection, TURN RIGHT ON LA BREA PLZ. or else you'll be cutting tons of cars off when the lane ends and everyone will h8 u 4ever

5. if you're happily driving along and there is a green light (indicating "go") you still shouldn't go if there are cars backed up in the upcoming lanes. if you do, you'll be sitting in the middle of the intersection when the light turns red and cars will honk at you for the entire light as if you didn't already know you were stopped in the middle of an intersection.

GRAFFITI = VANDALISM

on monday i had the pleasure of visiting the art in the streets exhibit at the MOCA downtown. it was so lovely and inspired me to crack open my art box and create something.

quite a few of the artists i recognized from beautiful losers,

others i was familiar with, and others i had never heard of ever in my life.

these were my favorites:

Erik Brunetti's Lost (Black Female)

a collection of lost animal posters, the purest form of art, drawn in desperation

Banksy's I Hate Mondays

self-explanatory, and particularly applicable since i was JUST thinking about how our society is expected to hate that day of the week, even those of us not working 9-5 monday-friday jobs, which is JUST TOTALLY RIDICULOUS. working in a coffeeshop, i'm certainly exposed to it.. "oh hi are you having the usual today how are you?" "BLAHH ITS MONDAY"

anyway, banksy is hilarious and a genius.

Os Gemeos... i think most of their works are untitled. i can't find an image of the particular one i was looking for, but this was in the exhibit too.

it's so awesome to live in a city where there's always a zillion things to do (tonz of shows, shopping, restaurants, partiez, the tim burton exhibit at lacma, etc), but equally awesome is just hanging out in my apartment by myself, where i can do whatever i want at any hour of the day.

i have access to a dvr which is great because i can record trashy reality shows or cry myself to sleep after watching the hbo documentary how to die in oregon (rly happened~).

other things to do~*~*~

• read lots of culturally relevant books
• become a master crossword-solver
• take baths (oh jeeez it's so nice to have a bathtub that isn't filled with dinosaur and car toys (living with parents 4ever ffffff)
• PAINT/create other masterpieces
• memorize all the answers to the trivial pursuit 90s edition questions. jk y'all i'm already undefeated at that without cheating.
• knit headbands
• basically ANYTHING I WANT

i do wish i had my pets with me :o( particularly my feline friends osiris and esther (cuddle budzz) and my poodle garp (a walking partner and for entertainment purposes). i miss my rabbit of course but he's not spectacular company.

and duh it gets lonely here sometimes.. i've been here alone for 3 weeks and one day. i miss my bff/1truluv and also my parents and my friends, but i've never been one to necessarily consider loneliness as something negative. it can be peaceful.

also i spend a considerable amount of time at coffee bean, due to the unfornunate little-to-no internet connection at my apartment. that might be a good thing actually. you'll notice that mindlessly clicking through tumblr isn't on that list up there.

so,

REASONS 4 STARTING A NEW BLOG:

1. i made a tumblr when my 365 proj was over, but my old obsolete blog STILL gets more hits than my tumblr which is distressing. (equating fame with success, it's the american way)

2. i think when I was blogging on the regular, I had found a successful way of exploiting my introverted personality (manners and morals in tact~) so I just figured I’d continue to take advantage of it.

3. my life is kind of exciting right now, nbd. I’m living by myself in a huge city and the experience needs to be documented.
