ramblin' y'all

i'm dogsitting for the gr9999est bulldog ever. most of you ppl who know me in REAL LIFE~~ already know that i LOVE BULLDOGS so much. we are going to hang out all night and watch dawson's creek and read stories 2gether~

i had big major plans to link to a free album download from steel train, sort of a contest bc embedding it oN mY bLoG automatically would have (WOULD HAVE) entered me in the contest to get some rare traxx and there's nothing i love more than winning and rare songs. WOULD HAVE. PAST TENSE. i missed the cut-off date because i don't have any internet access and always kept forgetting. i thought maybe just maybe if i had won, it would have made up for that time i lost america's next top model or that other time when i didn't get a pink ribbon on danceline, but alas. now i can't even find the download link. even though i'm pretty sure it was supposed to be available through june and it still technically is june...
also yesterday i was wearing my steel train shirt and was taking a walk to get some grilled fruit from whole foods because i mean what else would i be doing and it was cold so i put on my steel train sweatshirt without even doing it on purpose! wearing two steel train things at once 4evrr 2k11~*~*
LISTEN. i'm rambling and all of that is beside the point. if anyone wants me to burn them a copy of "STEEL TRAINS GR8EST HITS OF ALL TIME" (which i made up as an itunes playlist) to make up for the lack of a free download link, then i will.

if y'all were wondering how many specialty cupcake places i went to today, it was two. first i got german chocolate~*~*~* and then i got smores. just tryin to enjoy my time left on this earth y'all, nbd.

it is indeed the last day of june. i have exactly 5 hours and 23 minutes to decide what my goals for july are. i've extended drawing everything i buy and writing down my dreams to be goals for the entire summer. right now i'm really leaning towards No Complaining July. it'd be so rad if i could be vegan for an entire month but that might require some extra planning ahead.

since i was off work today i did some unnecessary shopping. the beverly center is a good place to go if a) want to go to the most gigantic forever 21, b) want some jeffrey campbell shoes bc you like owning shoes that are out of your price range, or c) want to pass by some semi-famous people going the opposite way on the escalator.
did y'all know forever 21 had maternity clothes?? i didn't until i bought a dress and got home and looked at the tag which said "love maternity"

ANYWAY, keeping things relevant.
here are just a few things you can do if you want to feel like you fit in in los angeleeez calipornia:
1. wear workout clothes everywhere you go
2. honk your horn randomly while driving. no polite, informative honking, only prolonged rude honks allowed.
3. get collagen injected in your lips
4. get a very tiny dog and shove it in your purse and carry it everywhere with you
i don't do any of these things
such an outcast

long and long overdue~

lets begin with monday, june 20, 2011.
excluding The First Day, this was hands down my worst day in LA so far. i dealt with the MOST ANNOYING CUSTOMER EVER at work, and then UPS wouldn't deliver a package that my mom sent and i almost cried because it had magazines and two bags of almonds and you know other things i can't live without. i was so annoyed with the human race y'all. things started to improve slightly during the first half of tuesday, june 21, 2011. after work i picked up the new bon iver album from amoeba~~~

even though duh i downloaded it weeks ago when it leaked but i just wanted the actual vinyl to hold in my hands.

then later i went to the fun concert at the wiltern~~ that's the FUN concert. FUN the band, not the adjective. i was SUPER BUMMED bc i waited too long to get tickets because ok i'm sorry i didn't know panic!!!! at the disco still had fans past 2006. (yes, they were the headlining band). so i had to SIT IN A SEAT way up high in the balcony. i sat next to this girl and we were bonding, complaining, feeling sorry for ourselves over our bad seats. i mean having a bad seat at a concert might as well be the end of the world. then she gets a phone call and is like "ok bye, i'm going to the floor" so then i just read desert solitaire and tweeted depressing thoughts until it started. AND GUESS WHAT. it was still good! excellent even!

remember this time i saw fun before the album was released and this awkward picture was taken:
sighhhh
back when getting to concerts 4 hours early was sufficient

ANYWAY my point being: my mood was shifted from horrible to awesome. luv u fun~
also i got to talk to andrew ^^^ before he left the tour early. andrew dost is one c00l d00d. other examples of c00l d00ds: nick norwood~*~, eli haftman, ryan gosling, my bf, jesus. actually there are tons of them in this world. i am sad 2 b a gurl :o(

possibly due to my excellent night, and possibly due to the tylenol pm i consumed, i slept through the night for probably the third time since i've been in LA. which made wednesday, june 22, 2011, another great day.

basically i just spent a bunch of time reading desert solitaire and watching beetlejuice and drawing outfits.

then you know, the week continued. how is it even friday already? HOW IS JUNE ALMOST OVER omg

listen, living here is really so weird. lots of times ppl r like "R U AN ACTRESS HMM" and then i want to tell them yes, i'm an actress in the movie of life. but i don't want them to get confused and think i mean the eddie murphy movie. so instead i just smile and say no way jose. whatevs.
disclaimer: it's not like they think i'm an actress because i look or act like one. IT'S NOT LIKE I WEAR SUNGLASSES INDOORS Y'ALL>>> IT'S NOT LIKE I WALK AROUND WITH HUGE BODYGUARDS SHIELDING MY FRAGILE BODY, ITS NOT LIKE I PARK IN THE RED ZONE AND EXPECT TO GET AWAY WITH IT. it's just expected that everyone who lives here is an actor/model/singer/dancer/writer and/or is married to someone who is and/or works for someone who is. which is really such a culture shock, and i'm still getting used to it.

......................
here are some questions for an interactive experience:
do y'all know any good documentaries i should watch?
did y'all cry ab ryan dunn's death?
how do y'all feel ab brie cheese?
do y'all ever politely smile at dogs when you walk by them?
what's y'alls flavorite type of popsicle?

answers comments plz >>>

i'm NOT TOO HAPPY about hardly ever getting to pOsT bLoGs~~~
it's just that i used to be able to steal internet sometimes but now alllll the connections are protected and i don't know the passwords even though i've tried to guess. (lame fact: one i can pick up is called "SweetSurprise" omgg WHO NAMES THEIR WIFI THAT so i typed in like "oreo" and "snickers" for the passwords and was disappointed they didn't work.. i don't know)

anyway i have tons of things to tell you guys because i mean it's officially summer now so EVERY DAY IS WONDERFUL OF COURSE~*~*~*~*~
summer is my flavorite season y'all

if all days of the week were celebrated according to what they rhymed with

everyone knows about sunday funday. you're REQUIRED to have fun on sundays because duhh it rhymes. (this could also be applicable to mondays, because that also rhymes)

while i was walking to the disappointing west hollywood farmers market, i was brainstorming some ideas for the other days of the week:

done-day monday: a day for getting things done~
snoozeday tuesday: a day when you sleep late and take lots of naps
friendsday wednesday: a day for hanging out with friends~~
purrrrrs-day thursday: a day for hanging out with CATS
why?day friday: a day for axing querstions
batterday saturday: a day when you bake like brownies or cake or something
sunday funday of course
that's all

lolololololololol

new hilarious idea:
when sitting next to a famous person at a coffee shop, as i am now, quickly change your desktop background to a picture of that famous person
hahahahasdjfhapertpu9p3847 i am laughing out loud and everyone might think i'm insane

LIKE

listen i was just eating dinner in silverlake and i sat by this guy who is a paparazzoo~* and just got paid $1000 for a picture of zac efron nbd. ~*~eavesdropping
also this other guy sat at the same table as me because i guess there were no other seats but it was awkward so i just drew in my notebook in between self-consciously taking bites.

now i'm at intelligentsia which is the raddest hippest place around.

if you guys were wondering how my june goals are going,
i've drawn every single thing i've purchased
written down every dream i can remember
and exercised like, twice.

OMG Y'ALL~*~

the chronicles of the steel train show~*~
here is my tuesday, arranged in a simple bulleted list for your reading pleasure:

  • got to ventura at 4:30, 3.5 hours early as expected. however i DIDN'T expect to be the 50th person in line
  • got in line next to some teenage scene kids straight out of 2005, conversing about crowd-surfing during [insert hot topic t-shirt band here]'s set at warped tour
  • acted like i knew who never shout never was...
  • went inside around 6:45, stood behind the tallest guy in the world probably, i don't know maybe he has his own show on tlc or something, and next to a lot of people wearing jack's mannequin shirts (jack's mannequin was the headlining band).... for the record, i vote a big THUMBS DOWN on wearing the band's shirt to the show. (please reference my post about other show etiquette here)
  • pushed my way to the front a little, just so i could see past the giant in front of me
  • didn't feel bad about it because the girl beside me was searching for "steel trade" on her phone
  • surely impressed all members of steel train by being the only person in the front who knew all the words
  • got crushed against the railing as soon as steel train left the stage
  • thought "f this shit man" and squeezed my way out, deciding that seeing a band i loved when i was 18 but now don't care much about wasn't worth my life or consciousness
  • sat on the steps by the merch tables, got approached by a guy who raised his eyebrows a lot
  • immediately ignored eyebrow guy when jack came to the merch table OMG
  • in a semi-awkward state, delivered a list of reasons why i think he's so great to THE jack antonoff himself, in less than a conversational manner than i had practiced in my head
  • met the bass player evan, found out we're practically neighbors, and met another super fan such as myself named laura, found out we both work at starfucks
  • decided we should all hang out since we were becoming best budz
  • went backstage and ate cocoa puffs, talked about life, met the other members of steel train
  • died a little
  • .....
  • ....
  • ..
...

fashion blogs 4ever~

+ an oldie of jack aka god:
i took new pictures duh but i need to find a place to develop my film for less than $20

lizzie's guide to living on your own

STEP TWO:

when walking to your apartment after dark because you were forced to park 15 blocks away* due to all the spots on your street being taken by everyone in LA with an average of 7 cars per person**, always carry your keys in the manner i like to call "the wolverine" or "the esther" (named for my cat with especially sharp claws shaped like tiny hooks), just like this, with your keys pointing outward:
it's a convenient self-defense mechanism in case you might need to slash someone's face.
BETTER SAFE THAN SORRY Y'ALL.
+++bonus time-saver! carrying your keys in this beneficial manner also prevents you from losing them in the depths of your purse~~

.............................................

tomorrow i'm driving to ventura to see steel train, and i'm going to get there 3.5 hours early but i don't even care because i'll probably just sit outside and finish reading the stranger aka l'etranger and become a philosophical genius, and then during the show i'll stand in the front row and spend the entire time singing and dancing, regardless of whether or not i still have a horrible debilitating cold.
maybe they'll even play touch me bad and maybe THIS will happen again>>>>>>>
luv u 4evrr jack antonoff xoxoxoxoxo

*actual distance is 2 blocks
**actual statistic is 1.8 cars per person

FOTO FRIDAY #1

the results:

oh just iced green tea

hi you guyzz, i'm just sitting here at panera bread, enjoying some iced green tea and surfing the interweb.
i was trying to dl some good albums but guess what! panera bread wants me to follow the law so they've conveniently installed firewalls. fine then.

here are some of the complaints expressed by this nice old couple in front of me:
1. the temperature of their coffee (too hot)
2. the temperature of their food (too cold)
3. the headlines on the newspaper
4. the noise level in here
5. the table not being steady
..... luv u old ppl

probably later i'll do something along the lines of walking to amoeba so i can get the new LA weekly so i can dog-ear things to do and then never do them. (listen i'm just really torn between wanting to do 238479 things and not wanting to spend money.)
also i was planning on driving down mulholland to take some pixx. today IS Foto Friday* after all.

c-ya

new new new (aka Interests: part V)

a few things that i'm really especially interested in lately:

1. lavender-scented everything. detergent, handsoap, bubbbles, candles
also this really exists:

2. perfume! i never wear this usually, but sometimes going to sephora and spraying some on is just lovely. chloe is my favorite and also marc jacobs daisy and vivienne westwood boudoir. i asked at nordstrom if they had it and the lady was like, no we don't carry singers' scents. ughhh vivienne westwood is obv not a singer

3. MY NEW STICKER COLLECTION. there's a place at the farmers market that sells only stickers! i'm putting them on my cellphone, cards, errythang~*~

4. also my new/old cassette tape collection. i've been raiding the cassette section at amoeba weekly and they're mostly like $1.99! if you guys don't know amoeba, you should visit LA for that reason only (i mean.. if you don't have any other reasons). the gr9est record store of all time maybe AND AND AND they have used movies. i don't know, it's kind of hard for me to want to buy movies now that netflix makes most of them so easily accessible. but it's cool just to look through the racks, get ideas, spend some time. once i saw conor oberst there omg.

5. coupon clipping~*~*~*~*~*~

6. french films~ i've watched amelie and breathless and heartbreaker (vanessa paradis!) and i'm dvr-ing all the french language movies that come on so i can watch them allll. i studied french in high school and part of college so natchh sometimes i can understand a few sentences here and there, you know without reading the subtitles.

7. exercise tv. i considered not admitting to this bc it is sO LaMe*~ but listen, the other night i did pilates over 50 and yesterday i did yoga 360. i'm really on my way to being in great shape y'all, don't h8. maybe later i'll do barre 3 total body or even groove n burn disco, or maybe NOTHING because i'm kind of sick and don't feel like moving at all. in fact i'm almost certain i have a fever of at least 120 degrees fahrenheit. wahhh

hope y'all r interested in these fine things 2
maybe we can watch french movies together sometime and put stickers on our faces~

NOW THAT IT'S JUNE

not sure if you guys know this ~*interesting fact*~
for each month, i like to give something up and/or make myself do something that i don't usually do
examples: No Mexican Food May, No Mindlessly Watching Television March, Walk Garp Everyday April, etc. also i give up starbucks drinks/pastries regularly for months at a time. (which is so hard y'all, pumpkin bread 4ever___

i mean basically i've just always loved testing my STELLAR self-control by abstaining from unnecessary habits/actions/cultural predispositions/whatever

since i skipped the month of may this year because i was so occupied with changes/everything and didn't even think of setting excessive rules for myself, i decided to make june xxxtra difficult. and without further ado, here are my goals for this month:

1. draw everything i buy. this is an excellent idea for two reasons~ i get to practice drawing, and i get to have a visual reference for what exactly i spend money on. so far it's mostly groceries. i didn't think of this idea myself. i read about it somewhere sometime.
2. write down my dreams. i came up with this terrific goal after reading love's executioner and other tales of psychotherapy by irvin yalom xoxo. sometimes i can remember my dreams right after i wake up but forget them minutes later. ps: i have recurring dreams about the end of the world.
3. exercise at least three times a week. i'm the laziest person on the planet maybe. i wish i had my rollerblades here with me.

cheesecake for breakfast, ridiculous shoes, and manchester orchestra

hello,

this is mine

and these are mine

thanks

two nights ago i went to the manchester orchestra show at the music box and it was sooOOooOOo good. i fucking love them y'all. unfortunately i wore those shoes and killed my feet. if you’re a show-jumper like me, it’s best to wear NOT THESE to concerts. it was so painful, in fact, that halfway through the show i classily removed them, deciding that the risk of getting my toes stomped on and also probably ruining my tights was worth the instant physical relief. but then i had to put them on when we left, plus we parked 600 blocks away so i was dying by the end of the night. DYING. was it worth it? yes, of course.

i took pictures but only with a disposable camera, so i can’t post them yet on this here blog right here. the downside to having a TOTES FAB digital camera is that some places won’t let you bring it in.

anyway, if you guys were wondering what my favorite manch orch song is, it’s a 4-way tie between colly strings, i can feel a hot one, play it again sam (you don't have any feathers), and pensacola (new album fave... maybe... i don’t know, those kinds of decisions are tough.)

lizzie's guide to living on your own

STEP ONE:

let all the plates pile up in the sink,
then start using bowls as plates,
use all the bowls,
then and only then do you need to wash dishes.

thangzzz

it's so awesome to live in a city where there's always a zillion things to do (tonz of shows, shopping, restaurants, partiez, the tim burton exhibit at lacma, etc), but equally awesome is just hanging out in my apartment by myself, where i can do whatever i want at any hour of the day.
i have access to a dvr which is great because i can record trashy reality shows or cry myself to sleep after watching the hbo documentary how to die in oregon (rly happened~).
other things to do~*~*~
  • read lots of culturally relevant books
  • become a master crossword-solver
  • take baths (oh jeeez it's so nice to have a bathtub that isn't filled with dinosaur and car toys (living with parents 4ever ffffff)
  • PAINT/create other masterpieces
  • memorize all the answers to the trivial pursuit 90s edition questions. jk y'all i'm already undefeated at that without cheating.
  • knit headbands
  • basically ANYTHING I WANT
i do wish i had my pets with me :o( particularly my feline friends osiris and esther (cuddle budzz) and my poodle garp (a walking partner and for entertainment purposes). i miss my rabbit of course but he's not spectacular company.
and duh it gets lonely here sometimes.. i've been here alone for 3 weeks and one day. i miss my bff/1truluv and also my parents and my friends, but i've never been one to necessarily consider loneliness as something negative. it can be peaceful.

also i spend a considerable amount of time at coffee bean, due to the unfornunate little-to-no internet connection at my apartment. that might be a good thing actually. you'll notice that mindlessly clicking through tumblr isn't on that list up there.
